Richard from the club was after a practice game for the CLWC One Dayer in March 2024, so I brought my Scots Royalist lead by Montrose himself.
The Scots lost the initiative and had to defend in the plains, which wasn’t the worst choice for them. I managed to get a BUA and Richard kindly deployed a waterway on my flank and I decided to ambush some highlanders in the BUA.
I managed to deploy badly and didn’t leave myself enough space to deploy my army which caused quite a traffic jam.

Richard came charging in, each of his pike & shot units decided to bring along their medium artillery with the which was a bit of a surprise. My highlanders who were ambushing in the BUA came charging out and surprised the Spanish.

The Highlanders proceeded to loose most of their combats but managed to break thru one of the pike & shot. The rest of highlanders advanced to support.

The left flank looked a bit better and the Irish troops managed to catch a Spanish dragoon who got a little too close. The Irish then proceeded to loose the next three rounds of combat to the one dragoon, a sign of what the game was to be like.

The Scots desperately tried to engage the Spanish in the flanks and in the centre, but the superior shooting of the Spanish was starting to take effect.

The Scots broke a turn later.
